What is Niacin ER?

Niacin ER is the extended release formula of niacin, a Vitamin B-class antihyperlipidemic medication prescribed to treat high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, prevent or treat low niacin levels, and lower heart attack risks in those who have already had one. It may also be prescribed to help treat coronary heart disease. It is typically combined with exercise and dietary changes, and other medications and treatment.

How do I take Niacin ER?

Niacin ER is administered in tablet form and taken orally with cold or cool water, without regard to food. The dosage strength and frequency of dosing is determined by the condition being treated and the patient’s medical profile. Swallow the Niacin ER drug whole; do not crush or chew the tablet. Do not discontinue this medication without your doctor’s permission.

Before taking Niacin ER, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to niacin or any of the ingredients in the Niacin ER drug
  • You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
