Renova Information:

What is Renova?

Renova is a cream used to treat acne vulgaris that consists of tretinoin. Tretinoin is a retinoid and the carboxylic acid form of vitamin A. It works by acting on the RAR (retinoid acid) receptors that modify gene expression, protein synthesis, and epithelial cell growth. It helps to eject comedones from clogged pores, and it stimulates cell generation and cell turnover to eliminate acne. Tretinoin stimulates collagen production and it may also work to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Renova comes in two different strengths: 0.02% and 0.05% tretinoin.

How do I take Renova?

Use our free Renova coupon to reduce the cost when you fill your prescription. Renova cream is usually applied to the face once a day in the evening before bed. First, gently wash your face with a mild soap and dry it. Wait 20 minutes or so for the face to completely dry before applying Renova. Use a pea-sized amount to cover the affected area and rub it in evenly. If you are using the medication for your entire face or other parts of the body, more than a pea-sized amount may be required. Avoid getting this medication near your eyes or in your ears, nostrils, lips and mouth. Ask your dermatologist about using a moisturizer that you can apply after each application of Renova. You may use makeup after applying Renova and allowing it to be absorbed, but this medication produces the best results when used overnight. Your acne may get worse before it starts to improve. It may take several weeks to see results.

Before taking Renova, tell your doctor if:

  • You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast feeding.
  • You have eczema or other skin conditions that may be affected.
  • You are using other skincare products or skin medications such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
  • You are taking other medications such as tetracycline or sulfa drugs.
  • You are allergic to tretinoin or any of the ingredients in this medication.
  • Your skin is extremely sensitive to sunlight.

What are the possible side effects of taking Renova?

Side effects from using Renova cream include dry or scaly skin, redness and irritation at the site of application, increased sensitivity to the sun, mild stinging, and peeling skin.

What if I forget to take a dose of Renova?

If you miss a dose of Renova, apply the missed dose to clean skin as soon as you remember it. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular schedule.

How do I store Renova?

Store Renova at a room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep this medication out of reach of children and pets.

What happens if I overdose on Renova?

Overdose on Renova isn’t likely. Excessive use may result in exaggerated side effects such as severely irritated skin at the site of application. If you think you have used too much, contact the prescribing physician or your dermatologist. If someone accidently ingests Renova, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.

Warnings

Use sunscreen, wear protective clothing and eyewear, and avoid the sun as much as possible while using Renova. Avoid tanning booths and sun lamps. Use caution when applying other skincare products such as shaving cream, lotions, or astringents that may contain alcohol and cause further drying and irritation of the skin.
