Rheumate Information:
What is Rheumate?
Rheumate is classified as a multivitamin medical food and is prescribed to help mitigate the effects of methotrexate treatment for those who are taking it to control inflammation caused by psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumate works by replenishing and maintaining healthy levels of folate, vitamin B-12, and antioxidants.
How do I take Rheumate?
Rheumate is administered as a capsule that is taken orally, once or twice a day, with water and without regard for food. The exact dosing amount and schedule will be determined by your doctor. Swallow the capsule whole; do not crush, split, or chew it. Follow the dosing instructions exactly and do not take more or less than the prescribed amount.
Before taking Rheumate, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to L-methyltetrahydrofolate, methylcobalamin, curcuminoids, or any of the ingredients in Rheumate
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You have anemia
- You have low levels of vitamin B-12
What are the possible side effects of taking Rheumate?
Some individuals have reported side effects while taking the Rheumate, including diarrhea, nausea, and an upset stomach. If any of these conditions appear and linger or worsen, contact your healthcare provider. Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction, numb or tingling skin, and feeling as if the entire body is swollen.
What if I forget to take a dose of Rheumate?
If you forget the scheduled dose of your Rheumate medicine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, you should skip the one missed and resume the prescribed regimen. Do not take more of this product or increase the frequency to make up for a missed dose.
How do I store Rheumate?
Keep the Rheumate capsules tightly sealed in their original container, out of the reach of children and away from extremes of temperature and humidity; do not store in the bathroom. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist regarding the proper method for disposing of expired or unused capsules.
What happens if I overdose on Rheumate?
If an overdose of the Rheumate medicine is suspected, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has lost consciousness or stopped breathing, contact Emergency Services at 911.
