Simbrinza Information:

What is Simbrinza?

Simbrinza is a liquid suspension containing two medications: brimonidine and brinzolamide. Brinzolamide helps decrease the production of a certain fluid inside your eye, while brimonidine increase fluid outflow to reduce high pressure in your eye. This combination product is most commonly used to treat open-angle glaucoma.

How do I take Simbrinza?

One drop of Simbrinza is typically applied to the eye three times a day, but follow your doctor’s instructions if he or she puts you on a different dosage schedule. If you wear contact lenses, take them out before inserting the eye drop. Always shake the bottle of medication well before each use, and gently squeeze a single drop into your eye while holding your bottom eyelid back to create a pouch. Close your eye and apply gentle pressure by placing your finger at the corner of your eye near your nose. Keep this pressure on your eye for one or two minutes before opening. Repeat this process for the other eye.

Before taking Simbrinza, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to this medication or have any other allergies
  • You are using any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements
  • You have a history of blood vessel diseases or blood circulation disorders
  • You have a history of kidney or liver disease
  • You have a history of depression
  • You have Raynaud’s disease
  • You have low blood pressure and frequently get dizzy when standing up

What are the possible side effects of taking Simbrinza?

Simbrinza may sometimes cause dizziness, drowsiness, eye irritation, temporarily blurred vision, dry mouth, a bitter taste in the mouth, or headache. If any of these side effects persist or are bothersome, let your doctor know. In very rare cases, Simbrinza may cause a fast or irregular heartbeat, eye pain or swelling, vision changes, and extreme sensitivity to light. Contact your doctor right away if you experience any of these side effects.

What if I forget to take a dose of Simbrinza?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember and then continue with your normal dosing schedule, unless it is almost time for your next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and get back to your normal dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

How do I store Simbrinza?

Store Simbrinza at room temperature. Do not keep it in the bathroom, as light and moisture can negatively affect it. As with any prescription medication, keep it out of reach of children and pets.

What happens if I overdose on Simbrinza?

Because it comes in an eye dropper, it is unlikely that you will overdose on Simbrinza if you use it as intended. However, if you or someone in your household swallows this medication, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 immediately.

Warnings

If you are using any other eye medications, wait at least five minutes after applying Simbrinza before applying the additional medication. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or engage in any activities that require alertness or clear vision, as this medication may make you dizzy or drowsy.
