Trumenba Information:
Trumenba is a meningitis B vaccine that the FDA has approved for use in people ages 10 to 15. It works by exposing the body to a small amount of the bacteria that causes meningitis B so that your body develops immunity to the disease. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that individuals receive a meningitis vaccine when they are between the ages of 16 and 23.
If you or your child needs the Trumenba vaccine, a medical professional will inject it in a healthcare setting. After the first shot, you or your child will need a booster shot two months later, and another booster shot four months after that. Your doctor may prescribe a slightly different booster shot schedule; be sure to keep all follow-up appointments.
Before use Trumenba, tell your doctor if:
· You have ever had an allergic reaction to a meningitis B vaccine
· You are taking any prescription or non-prescription drugs, supplements, or vitamins
· You have a weakened immune system due to a disease or a medication
· You have sickle cell disease
· Your spleen has been removed
· You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning a pregnancy
Trumenba may cause mild muscle pain, headache, fatigue, or chills. These side effects are not expected to last long, but if you do have any side effects that last a long time or get worse, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Get emergency medical help right away if you experience signs of an allergic reaction after receiving a Trumenba shot.
If you miss an appointment to receive a booster shot for Trumenba, call your doctor to reschedule.
Since you will receive your Trumenba injections in a healthcare setting, you shouldn’t have to worry about storing the vaccine in your home.
You are very unlikely to overdose on Trumenba since it is only administered in a controlled dose by a medical professional.
Trumenba is generally well tolerated, but if you experience any adverse effects after your first injection, tell your doctor before you receive your next booster shot.
Trumenba is currently only available as a brand name vaccine. Bexsero is the only other vaccine that has been approved by the FDA to protect against the meningitis B strain. Talk to your doctor about your vaccination options, and use a coupon from HelpRx to help cover the cost of any vaccine that your insurance plan won’t cover.
