What is Urso Forte?
Urso Forte is the drug ursodiol, a bile acid prescribed to dissolve gallstones in those who cannot or do not wish to have them removed surgically. It is also prescribed to prevent gallstones from forming in overweight or obese individuals who are trying to lose weight as well as to treat primary biliary cirrhosis. It works by decreasing cholesterol production and dissolving cholesterol in the bile ducts to prevent gallstone formation.
How do I take Urso Forte?
Urso Forte is administered as a table that is taken orally with water and food. The amount taken and frequency of dosing will depend on the condition being treated and the individual’s medical profile. Follow the prescription instructions exactly; do not take more or less than the prescribed amount. While the tablet may be split, do not crush or chew the medicine. Continue to take Urso Forte even if you feel well and do not stop taking it without medical permission.
Before taking Urso Forte, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to ursodiol, bile acids, or any of the ingredients in the Urso Forte drug
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You have gallbladder disease

What are the possible side effects of taking Urso Forte?
Potential side effects of Urso Forte include back pain, constipation, cough, diarrhea, dizziness, hair loss, indigestion, joint and muscle pain, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, or vomiting. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider for Urso Forte patient assistance. Call your doctor right away if you have any rare but serious side effects, including swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue; fever; hoarseness; difficulty breathing or swallowing; increased or painful urination, and cough with fever.
What if I forget to take a dose of Urso Forte?
If you forget to take your scheduled dose of Urso Forte, do so as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the dosage or change the schedule to make up for one that was missed.
How do I store Urso Forte?
Keep Urso Forte tightly sealed in its original container, out of the reach of children and away from humidity or high heat. Do not store it in the bathroom.
What happens if I overdose on Urso Forte?
If an overdose of Urso Forte is suspected, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911 for Urso Forte patient assistance.
