Ala-Quin Information:

What is Ala-Quin?

Ala-Quin is a combined medication that uses the power of Iodochlorhydroxyquin and hydrocortisone to fight fungal infections of the skin and reduce the prominence of the inflammatory response from the body. It helps relieve the itching, burning, and redness associated with skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

How do I use Ala-Quin?

Ala-Quin is applied topically directly to the skin. Thoroughly wash the affected area with soap and water, then dry it gently. Apply a thin film of medicine and rub it in softly until it is evenly distributed across the affected area. Unless your hands are part of the treatment area, wash them thoroughly immediately after use. Do not wrap or cover the treatment area unless your doctor instructs you to do so.

Before using Ala-Quin, tell your doctor if:

  • You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are nursing
  • You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medicine
  • You are taking an herbal preparation or dietary supplement
  • You have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
  • You have any kind of skin infections or wounds
  • You have had a recent vaccination
  • You have measles or tuberculosis

What are the possible side effects of taking Ala-Quin?

As with most topical medications, use of Ala-Quin has been associated with mild side effects such as dryness and itching. Get help from a medical professional as soon as possible if you experience more serious side effects, such as signs of an allergic reaction, excessive hair growth, inflamed hair follicles, acne-like rash, burning, cracking, irritation, or peeling not present before beginning Ala-Quin cream, inflammation on the face or around the mouth, muscle weakness, thinning or discoloration of the skin, or unusual weight gain, especially in the face.

What if I forget to take a dose of Ala-Quin?

Take your missed dose of Ala-Quin as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and restart your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.

How do I store Ala-Quin?

Store Ala-Quin at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (15 and 30 degrees Celsius). Do not freeze this medication, and be sure to keep it away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Ala-Quin cream out of the reach of children and away from pets. Do not store in the bathroom.

What happens if I overdose on Ala-Quin?

You may experience thirst or urination, muscle weakness, or unusual weight gain. Contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222, contact your local poison control center, or get to an emergency room immediately.

Warnings

Ala-Quin is intended to be used externally only. If the cream gets in your eyes, rinse it immediately with cool water. If your doctor prescribed Ala-Quin for treating the diaper area of a baby, make sure you are using tight-fitting diapers unless your doctor tells you otherwise. The cream can stain clothes and sheets and may also stain skin. Use only the prescribed amount over the prescribed period.
