Anusol-Hc Information:
What is Anusol HC?
Anusol HC is a brand name for hydrocortisone administered as a topical cream or a suppository. It is prescribed to treat the itching, pain, and inflammation caused by a variety of skin conditions or the discomfort and swelling of rectal problems including hemorrhoids. It works by reducing those substances that cause inflammation.
How do I take Anusol HC?
Anusol HC is a topical medication that is prescribed as a cream or a suppository; the amount and the frequency of dosing will depend on the condition being treated. Follow the instructions that accompany the prescription exactly. If using the cream, thoroughly wash and dry the affected area, apply a small amount, and massage it into the skin; do not cover the treated area unless directed to do so by your physician. If using the suppository, moisten the tip in water, and while lying on your left side with the right knee raised, insert the medication an inch into the rectum, holding it in place for a few seconds (left-handed individuals can reverse the position). Remain lying down for fifteen minutes. After that time, wash your hands thoroughly.
Before taking Anusol HC, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to hydrocortisone, other steroids, or any of the ingredients in Anusol HC
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You have a disorder of the immune system
- You have glaucoma
- You have diabetes
- You have a disorder of the circulatory system
What are the possible side effects of taking Anusol HC?
Side effects have been reported by those using Anusol HC. Severe symptoms requiring immediate medical attention include a severe skin rash or infection or signs of an allergic reaction. Milder side effects such as acne, burning, itching, a change in skin color, or cracked or drying skin should be monitored; if they persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider for assistance.
What if I forget to take a dose of Anusol HC?
If you are on an Anusol HC dosing schedule and you forget a scheduled dose, apply it as soon as you remember and are able. If the time is near for the next scheduled dose, however, skip the missed one and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the amount used or change the regimen to make up for one that was missed.
How do I store Anusol HC?
Keep Anusol HC tightly sealed in its original packaging, out of the reach of children and away from extremes of temperature and humidity. Do not allow the cream or the suppositories to freeze. Do not open the suppository packaging until you are ready to use one. Dispose of any expired or unused medicine according to the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Anusol HC?
If Anusol HC is accidentally ingested or too much is used, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, call 911.
Warnings
Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while using Anusol HC. This medication is not recommended for use on children under two years of age without medical permission. Do not allow the medication to come in contact with your eyes. Contact your doctor if your condition does not improve.
