Dymista: One of the Most Effective Nasal Sprays for Allergies

What’s your usual solution when you begin experiencing the tell-tale symptoms of seasonal allergies? Do you grab a box of tissues and tough it out? Do you take an over-the-counter medication? Do you use an allergy nasal spray? While all of these are reasonable choices, there’s increasing evidence that using a combination corticosteroid/antihistamine nasal spray, such as Dymista, may provide the best allergy relief.

Why Use an Antihistamine/Corticosteroid Combo?
To understand why allergy medications like Dymista work, we first need to look at what happens in our bodies when we experience allergies. When you come into contact with something that you are allergic to, such as mold or pet dander, your immune system mistakes the allergen for a threat and signals your body to release histamines, a chemical that causes swelling. When you have swelling in your nasal passages, you may experience common allergy symptoms such as a runny or stuffy nose.

Dymista has two active ingredients that help relieve allergy symptoms: azelastine hydrochloride (an antihistamine) and fluticasone propionate (a corticosteroid). Corticosteroids reduce the activity of the immune system in order to reduce inflammation. Antihistamines also help reduce inflammation by blocking histamine receptors. Azelastine hydrochloride has been shown to relieve both nasal allergy symptoms and eye itching.

Since both antihistamines and corticosteroids work to reduce allergy inflammation, you might be wondering why you shouldn’t just use one or the other. For some people, an antihistamine or corticosteroid alone might be effective. However, a 2015 study found that the combination of azelastine and fluticasone in a nasal spray is more effective in quickly treating allergy symptoms than either of the active ingredients on their own.

What to Know about Dymista
If you suffer from uncontrolled seasonal allergies and think that Dymista might be a good option, talk to your doctor. Like all prescription drugs, Dymista can cause side effects in some people. The most commonly reported adverse effects are headache, nosebleeds, and changes in sense of taste. If you have certain medical conditions, Dymista may not be safe to use. Tell your doctor about your medical history, including a history of nasal sores, vision problems, or untreated viral, fungal, or bacterial infections.

If your doctor does decide that Dymista is safe for you to use, follow dosage instructions carefully in order to get the greatest benefit from this nasal spray. For more information and a free coupon on Dymista, visit our Dymista Drug Page.
