Cabometyx Information:

Cabometyx is the drug cabozantinib, a kinase inhibitor prescribed to treat renal cell carcinoma that has worsened following chemotherapy medication treatments. It works to stop or slow the growth and spread of cancer cells by blocking the action of an abnormal protein that triggers their growth.

Cabometyx is dispensed in tablet form and is taken orally, usually once a day. Take this medication on an empty stomach, with a full glass (8 ounces) of water, an hour before or two hours after a meal. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, split, or crush it. The dosing regimen and its length will be determined by your medical profile and how well your respond to treatment.

Before taking Cabometyx, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to cabozantinib or any of the ingredients in the Cabometyx medicine

As with all medications, there may be side effects after taking Cabometyx. Mild symptoms include altered food taste, constipation, dry skin, extreme fatigue or weakness, appetite loss, muscle spasms, nausea, pain in the joints, arms, or legs; pale skin, rash, red, blistered, swollen or painful palms or soles; red or swollen mouth, sores or pain in the mouth, slowed healing of wounds, changes in the voice, vomiting, and weight loss. If these symptoms appear and persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider. Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include unusual or heavy bleeding or bruising, chest pain, pressure, or tightness; confusion, coughing up blood or blood clots, diarrhea, difficulty thinking,  speech difficulties, problems with balance or coordination or difficulty walking, dizziness, foamy urine, headache, lightheadedness or fainting, unusually heavy menstrual bleeding, numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg on one side of your body; red or black, tarry stools; seizure, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, swelling of the eyes, feet, or ankles; tender or painful stomach area, vision problems, or vomit looks like coffee grounds.

If you miss a dose of your Cabometyx medicine, take it as soon as you remember and are able. However, if there are fewer than 12 hours until your next scheduled dose, skip the one missed and maintain the regular schedule. Do not increase the amount taken or change the schedule to make up for a missed dose.
