Clarinex-D Information:
What is Clarinex-D?
Clarinex-D 12 is a prescription medication that is used to minimize the symptoms of seasonal allergies in patients over the age of 12. The main active ingredients in Clarinex-D are desloratadine and pseudoephedrine. They work by decreasing histamine (a natural substance that triggers watery eyes and nose when a person is exposed to an allergen) and reducing congestion in the nose.
How do I take Clarinex-D?
Take one Clarinex-D tablet every 12 hours as needed. Do not dissolve or chew the tablets as this may cause the medication to be released too quickly in the body, potentially causing unwanted side effects.
Before taking Clarinex-D, tell your doctor if:
- You have diabetes
- You have glaucoma
- You have liver or kidney problems
- You have a urinary tract condition
- You have high blood pressure
- You have heart disease
- You have any food or drug allergies
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications
What are the possible side effects of taking Clarinex-D?
Some of the most common side effects you may experience while taking Clarinex-D include sore throat, headache, dry mouth, nausea, difficulty sleeping, and dizziness. Contact your doctor if you experience weakness, tremors, an irregular heart rate, seizures, or low blood pressure.
What if I forget to take a dose of Clarinex-D?
Clarinex-D is usually taken as-needed to treat allergy symptoms, so missing a dose should not be an issue. If your doctor does have you on a dosing schedule, take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for your next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule.
How do I store Clarinex-D?
Store Clarinex-D in a locked cabinet out of reach from small children and pets. The ideal storage temperature for Clarinex-D is around 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
What happens if I overdose on Clarinex-D?
An overdose on Clarinex-D may cause extreme drowsiness. Contact your doctor or call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 if you or someone overdoses.
Warnings
You should not take Clarinex-D if you have high blood pressure or diabetes, as this medication may cause serious adverse effects. Tell your doctor about all of the medications you are currently taking to prevent interactions with Clarinex-D.
