This medicine is an anticholinergic agent used to treat symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. TAKE THIS MEDICINE BY MOUTH ON AN EMPTY STOMACH at least 30 minutes before eating unless otherwise directed by your doctor. IF YOU ARE ALSO TAKING ANTACIDS, you may need to separate them from this medicine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. TAKE THIS MEDICINE ON A REGULAR SCHEDULE around the clock, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking amantadine, antiarrhythmics (eg, quinidine), antihistamines (eg, diphenhydramine), digoxin, phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine), benzodiazepines (eg, diazepam), metoclopramide, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (eg, phenelzine), narcotic pain medicine (eg, meperidine), nitrates (eg, nitroglycerin, isosorbide), nitrites (eg, sodium nitrite), sympathomimetics (eg, pseudoephedrine), or tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including chronic inflammation or ulcers of the bowel, diarrhea, hiatal hernia, enlarged prostrate, urinary blockage or retention, kidney or liver problems, a nervous system disease, overactive thyroid, heart problems (eg, heart failure, history of rapid or irregular heartbeat), high blood pressure, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you are at risk for glaucoma. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMMENDED if you have blockage of the esophagus, stomach, intestine, or urinary tract; heart problems due to severe bleeding; glaucoma; inflammation of the esophagus due to acid reflux; loss of strength in the intestinal muscles; chronic inflammation and ulceration of the bowels; or myasthenia gravis (a condition in which the muscles become progressively paralyzed). USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you are breast-feeding. Use of this medicine in CHILDREN under age 6 months of age is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving this medicine to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include dry mouth, drowsiness, blurred vision, dizziness, decreased sweating, constipation, nausea, loss of taste, lightheadedness, headache, difficulty sleeping, or nervousness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience agitation; confusion; diarrhea; difficulty focusing your eyes, moving, speaking, or urinating, disorientation; exaggerated sense of well-being; fainting; hallucinations; pounding in the chest; rapid heartbeat; short-term memory loss; unusual weakness; or vomiting. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include unusually dry mouth; excessive thirst; nausea; vomiting; difficulty breathing; blurred vision; dilated pupils; flushed, hot, dry skin; muscle weakness; unusual dizziness or drowsiness; restlessness; disorientation; hallucinations or unusual behavior; rapid heartbeat and breathing; and seizures.
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. IF YOU WILL BE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out. CHECK WITH YOUR PHARMACIST about how to dispose of unused medicine.
