Embeda Information:

What is Embeda?

Embeda combines the drugs morphine and naltrexone to help relieve pain in those who require 24-hour pain management; it is not prescribed for use on an as needed basis. Morphine is an opiate analgesic that works by changing the way the brain and CNS respond to pain. Naltrexone is an opiate antagonist that is included in the medication in order to help prevent misuse and reduce the chances for addiction.

How do I take Embeda?

Embeda is dispensed as a capsule that is taken once or twice a day, with water and without regard for food. Follow the instructions that accompanied the prescription exactly; the exact dosing regimen will depend on the condition being treated and the medical profile of the patient. Swallow the capsule whole; do not crush, break, chew, or inhale this medication. If you are having difficulty swallowing the capsule, contact your doctor for advice. Do not take other round-the-clock medications while taking Embeda. Because of its potential for addiction, do not take this medication for longer than the prescribed time. An overdose of Embeda pills can be life-threatening.
