What is Entocort EC?
Entocort EC is prescribed to treat mild to moderate Crohn’s disease, a disease that attacks the lining of the digestive tract. This medication is a glucocorticoid and adrenal endocrine metabolic agent of the corticosteroid family that works by reducing inflammation in the digestive tract.
How do I take Entocort EC?
Entocort EC is administered in capsule form and is taken orally, once a day in the morning, for up to eight weeks. Swallow the capsule whole; do not chew, split, or crush it. Speak with your doctor if you are having difficulty swallowing the medication. You doctor may alter the dosage strength following the initial treatment. Entocort EC will not cure your condition; continue taking it even if you feel well.
Before taking Entocort EC, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to budesonide or any of the ingredients in the Entocort EC drug
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You are taking erythromycin, telithromycin, clarithromycin, ketoconazole, nelfinavir, itraconazole, indinavir, nefazodone, or ritonavir
- You have not had measles or chicken or if you have not been vaccinated against them
- You, or a family member, have diabetes, hypertension, tuberculosis, glaucoma, cataracts, osteoporosis, stomach ulcer, or liver disease.
What are the possible side effects of taking Entocort EC?
Some people have reported side effects after taking Entocort EC. Less severe symptoms include abdominal or back pain, dizziness, fatigue, gas, headache, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, pain, sneezing, coughing, or a runny nose.
Severe side effects requiring immediate Entocort EC patient assistance include signs of an allergic reaction (rash, hives, itching, peeling or blistered skin; swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue; difficulty breathing or swallowing), fever, severe headache, vision changes, bruising, or acne.
What if I forget to take a dose of Entocort EC?
If you forget to take your scheduled dose of Entocort EC, do so as soon as your remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the one missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the dosage or change the regimen to make up for one that was missed.
How do I store Entocort EC?
Keep Entocort EC tightly sealed in its original container, out of the reach of the reach of children and away from extremes of temperature and humidity. Dispose of any unused medication according to the instructions of your pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Entocort EC?
If an overdose of Entocort EC is suspected, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911 for patient assistance.
Warnings
Call your doctor if you become pregnant while taking Entocort EC or if you contract measles or chicken pox. Do not drink grapefruit juice or eat grapefruit while taking this medication.
