What is Fosteum Plus?
Fosteum Plus is a medical food. Medical foods are a type of supplements that are used for the dietary management of specific diseases or conditions. They are proven to be therapeutic and are recognized by the FDA. Fosteum Plus treats and prevents osteopenia and osteoporosis by slowing bone loss and increasing the generation of new bone tissue. Fosteum Plus contains calcium, phosphate, MK-7, zinc and gensitein. Gensitein is a type of estrogen derived from plants (non-soy) and MK-7 is a type of vitamin K. In addition to stopping bone loss, Fosteum Plus may reduce hot flashes over time.
How do I take Fosteum Plus?
Fosteum Plus can be taken with or without food, but take it with a glass of milk or after eating if it upsets your stomach. Zinc can cause some people to feel nauseous if taken on an empty stomach. This medical food should be taken twice daily at 12-hour intervals. Try to take Fosteum Plus at the same time every day.
Before taking Fosteum Plus, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Fosteum Plus.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding (has not been tested in pregnant women).
- You are taking any other supplements or medications for osteoporosis or osteopenia.
- You are taking any other drugs or supplements that contain some form of hormones, such as birth control.
What are the possible side effects of taking Fosteum Plus?
Side effects from Fosteum Plus are minimal as it is classified as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) by the FDA. Some small side effects may include upset stomach, constipation and breast tenderness. If breast tenderness doesn’t fade over time, or if you experience any severe or unusual side effects, tell your doctor.
What if I forget to take a dose of Fosteum Plus?
If you miss a dose of Fosteum Plus, you can take the missed dose as soon as you think of it. If it is almost time to take your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular regimen. Do not take a double dose to try to compensate for a missed one.
How do I store Fosteum Plus?
Store Fosteum Plus at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep it out of direct sunlight and out of reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Fosteum Plus?
There is no information available on Fosteum Plus overdose. Because this product is classified as GRAS, overdose should not be an issue. If you overdose, you may experience some of the symptoms listed in the side effects section. If someone has taken as excessive amount of Fosteum Plus, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 to ensure proper precautions are taken.
