Guaifenesin ER (extended release) tablets are typically prescribed to be taken as needed or on a dosing schedule of 2 times per day, with or without food. Swallow the extended-release tablets whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or split the extended-release tablets as doing so may cause all of the medication to release into your body at once. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully for using this medication.

 

Do not use this drug in children under 12 years of age.

 

If your symptoms do not improve within 7 days of starting this medication, contact your doctor. If you also have a high fever, a rash, or a headache that does not go away while using this medication for 7 days, contact your doctor.

Take care to drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication.

What if I forget to use a dose of Guaifenesin ER?

 

If you are taking Guaifenesin ER as needed, you do not need to worry about missed doses. If you are taking Guaifenesin ER on a dosing schedule as per your doctor’s instuctions, take your missed dose of Guaifenesin ER as soon as your remember to take it, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dose schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
