Keveyis Information:

Keveyis is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. Drugs in this class help keep potassium levels in the body balanced. It’s prescribed to treat a rare muscle disorder (periodic paralysis) that occurs when blood potassium levels are too high or low.

Take Keveyis by mouth twice daily, unless your doctor gives you different instructions. The starting dose of this drug is 50mg twice a day, and the maximum recommended total daily dose is 200mg. Your doctor may adjust your dose based on your condition and response to treatment.

Before taking Keveyis, tell your doctor if:

·       You are allergic to sulfa-based drugs

·       You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs, vitamins, or supplements

·       You are on a high-dose aspirin regimen

·       You have liver or kidney problems

·       You have a lung condition

·       You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

The most commonly reported side effects of the Keveyis drug are a tingling or pricking feeling, difficulty thinking and focusing, changes in the sense of taste, and confusion. If you have any side effects that become severe, or if you experience worsening symptoms of periodic paralysis, call your doctor.

Take the forgotten dose once you remember, unless it’s almost time for your next dose. Skip the missed dose and proceed with your regular schedule in this case. Don’t take two doses at the same time.

Store Keveyis in a tightly-sealed container at room temperature. Don’t keep it in the bathroom or leave it anywhere that children or pets could reach. If you have unused or expired medication, ask your pharmacist how best to dispose of it.

Signs of a Keveyis overdose may include drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, a tingling or prickling sensation, ringing in the ears, tremors, and problems with coordination. If you or someone in your home has overdosed, go to the nearest emergency room or call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.

Follow your doctor’s dietary instructions while taking Keveyis. Your doctor may tell you to eat foods with high levels of potassium. Although unlikely, Keveyis may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so avoid driving and operating heavy machinery until you know how the medicine affects you. Keveyis increases the risk of falls in elderly patients; talk to your doctor if this is a concern for you.

Keveyis is a relatively new branded drug that was approved in 2015, and it doesn’t have an FDA-approved generic equivalent yet. While it may be a long time before there’s a cheaper generic version, you can start saving on the cost of Keveyis now with a coupon from HelpRx.
