What is Lac-Hydrin?
Lac-Hydrin comes in the form of a cream or lotion. The active ingredient in Lac-Hydrin products is ammonium lactate which is an alpha-hydroxy acid. AHA seems to have a moisturizing effect as well as increase collagen production and have an effect on the keratinization process.
How do I take Lac-Hydrin?
Lac-Hydrin cream and lotion are normally prescribed to be applied twice daily, but always follow your doctor’s instructions for your particular condition. Apply the amount prescribed by your physician and rub it into the affected area(s). Try to apply this medication at the same time every day. Also, do not apply Lac-Hydrin near the eyes, mouth or nostrils as this could cause irritation.
Before using Lac-Hydrin, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Lac-Hydrin cream or lotion.
- You are using any other products or medications to treat your skin condition.
- You have any sores, abrasions or wounds on the area where you will apply Lac-Hydrin.

What are the possible side effects of using Lac-Hydrin?
Lac-Hydrin may cause redness, stinging, irritation and mild peeling at the site of application. These side effects should lessen overtime as your skin gets used to the product. If these side effects are severe, or if you experience swelling, red spots, or changes in skin color, tell your doctor or dermatologist as soon as possible.
What if I forget to apply a dose of Lac-Hydrin?
If you forget to apply a dose of Lac-Hydrin, apply the missed dose whenever you remember. However, if it’s already almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular routine. Do not apply two consecutive doses.
How do I store Lac-Hydrin?
Store Lac-Hydrin tightly closed in its original container at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep this product out of reach of small children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Lac-Hydrin?
Overuse of Lac-Hydrin may result in irritated skin. If you think you are using too much, talk to your doctor or dermatologist. If someone accidentally ingests Lac-Hydrin, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Do not tan or use sunlamps while using Lac-Hydrin, and try to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Wear protective clothing and sunscreen. Lac-Hydrin can make your skin more sensitive to light. This product is for topical use only.
