Metoprolol Succinate Er Information:

What is metoprolol succinate?

Metoprolol succinate is a beta blocker that selectively blocks only the B1 receptor in the heart muscles. By blocking this receptor, the heart is not stimulated by stress hormones, thereby reducing heart rate and cardiac activity and resulting in lowered blood pressure. This medication is mostly prescribed to treat high blood pressure, but it is also used to treat angina and heart failure. Metoprolol succinate ER or extended release is usually prescribed as this medication has a short half. Because metoprolol only blocks the B1 receptor in the heart, it is sometimes also used off-label to treat anxiety.
