The drug Moderiba uses ribavirin in combination with peginterferon alfa-2a to help treat adults and children 5 years and older who suffer from chronic hepatitis C viral infections. Patients must have compensated liver disease and have not been treated with interferon alpha. Moderiba works as an antiviral drug and attempts to fight the hepatitis C virus.

• How

Moderiba generally comes in tablet and capsule form but is available for children in liquid form as well. Take either with food. Do not chew, open, break, or crush ribavirin capsules or tablets. • Storage

Keep tablets and capsules at room temperature and avoid exposing them to moisture, heat, or light. If you have an oral solution, keep it in the refrigerator, but do not allow it to freeze.

Drink extra fluids while taking ribavirin to prevent dehydration. This medication can also cause dry mouth, which exacerbates tooth decay and gum disease. Use of this medication will not prevent the transmission of hepatitis to others. Do not use this drug if you have autoimmune hepatitis, a hemoglobin blood cell disorder, or severe kidney disease.
