How do I take Necon?
Necon birth control is only effective if taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take a larger or smaller dose than prescribed. Take your first pill on the first day of your period or on the first Sunday after your period begins; then take one pill every day, no more than 24 hours apart. When you have finished the entire pack of pills, start a new pack the following day. Each pack of pills contains several “reminder” pills to maintain your schedule of doses; your period will usually begin while you are using the reminder pills. Different instructions will likely be given for the different dosage packs, and you should adhere to your doctor’s instructions to ensure birth control efficacy.
Before taking Necon , tell your doctor if:
- You are pregnant or are nursing.
- You have untreated or uncontrolled high blood pressure or varicose veins.
- You have heart disease or a history of heart attack, stroke, or blood clots.
- You have a blood-clotting disorder or circulation problems.
- You have diabetes, and specifically if you have problems with your eyes, kidneys or circulation caused by diabetes.
- You have a history of hormone-related cancers such as breast or uterine cancer.
- You have unusual vaginal bleeding that has not been checked by a doctor.
- You have liver disease or liver cancer.
- You have severe migraine headaches, especially if you are over 35 years of age.
- You have a history of jaundice caused by pregnancy or birth control pills.
- You smoke.
- You have a history of depression.
- You have an underactive thyroid.
- You have gall bladder disease.
- You have seizures or epilepsy.
- You have a history of irregular menstrual cycles.
- You have tuberculosis.
- You have a history of fibrocystic breast disease, lumps, nodules, or an abnormal mammogram.
What are the possible side effects of taking Necon?
Seek emergency medical treatment if, after taking Necon Birth Control, you experience nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal symptoms, breakthrough bleeding, spotting, change in menstrual flow, amenorrhea, edema, melasma, breast changes, change in weight or cervical secretion, migraine, rash, mental depression, reduced tolerance to carbohydrates, vaginal candidiasis, or intolerance to contact lenses.
What if I forget to take a dose of Necon?
Missing a dose of Necon birth control increases your risk of becoming pregnant. Every brand of oral contraceptive comes with specific directions to follow if you miss one or more doses. Carefully read the directions in the manufacturer’s information for the patient that came with your oral contraceptive. If you have any questions, call your doctor or pharmacist. Continue to take your tablets as scheduled and use a back-up method of birth control until your questions are answered.
How do I store Necon?
Store Necon Birth Control at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store Necon in your bathroom.
What happens if I overdose on Necon?
If overdose is suspected, contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately. US residents can call their local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222, and Canadian residents can call a provincial poison control center. Overdose symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, and vaginal bleeding.
Warnings
Do not use Necon if you smoke cigarettes, use any type of tobacco products, or if you are over 35 years old. Necon is a hormonal birth control, and hormonal birth control products increase your risk for serious problems such as stroke, heart attack, blood clots, and high blood pressure. These risks increase with age and the number of cigarettes you smoke.
