What is Neo-Synalar?
Neo-Synalar is a topical medication that combines an aminoglycoside antibiotic with the anti-inflammatory corticosteroid fluocinolone. It is prescribed to treat eye infections. It kills the bacteria causing the infection and reduces any inflammation and swelling. It is not prescribed to treat viral infections.
How do I take Neo-Synalar?
Neo-Synalar is administered as a topical ointment. The frequency of application is determined by the condition being treated and the medical profile of the patient. Follow the instructions provided with the medication and the directions of your doctor regarding how to apply this medication. Only use Neo-Synalar for the duration of the prescription; do not alter the amount used or the application schedule.
Before taking Neo-Synalar, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to fluocinolone, corticosteroids, aminoglycoside antibiotics, or any of the ingredients in Neo-Synalar
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You are taking antibiotics, cephalosporin antibiotics, or aminoglycoside antibiotics
- You are taking NSAIDs, acyclovir, amphotericin, capreomycin, cisplatin, colistin, cyclosporine, or diuretics
- You have, or have had, kidney disease, diabetes, cataracts, glaucoma, a circulation disorder, an immune disorder, cystic fibrosis, or problems that affect the muscles
What are the possible side effects of taking Neo-Synalar?
Some people have reported side effects after taking Neo-Synalar. Less severe symptoms include acne, burning at the application site, change in skin color, diarrhea, dry or cracked skin, fever, headache, itching, nausea, and vomiting. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, seek medical assistance. Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (rash, hives, itching, peeling or blistered skin; swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue; fever; hoarseness; difficulty breathing or swallowing), wheezing, symptoms of a skin infection, including redness, swelling, or oozing pus.
What if I forget to take a dose of Neo-Synalar?
If you forget to apply your scheduled dose of Neo-Synalar, do so as soon as your remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled application, skip the one missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the amount or change the regimen to make up for one that was missed.
How do I store Neo-Synalar?
Keep Neo-Synalar tightly sealed in its original packaging, out of the reach of children and away from extremes of temperature and humidity. Do not allow the medication to freeze. Dispose of any unused or expired quantities according to the instructions of your pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Neo-Synalar?
Neo-Synalar is for topical application only. If it is accidentally ingested or too much is applied, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911. Symptoms include decreased urination, dizziness, hearing loss, swelling of the extremities, tinnitus, and unusual tiredness or weakness.
