Odomzo Information:
Odomzo is a Hedgehog pathway inhibitor. The Hedgehog pathway is a signaling pathway that plays a role in regulating tissue maintenance, renewal, and regeneration. Basal cell carcinoma causes this pathway to malfunction, leading to cancer growth. Odomzo blocks the Hedgehog signaling pathway to stop the growth of cancer. It is usually only prescribed when surgery and radiation are not options, or when surgery or radiation has been unsuccessful.
Take Odomzo on an empty stomach as often as your doctor has prescribed. Keep all doctor’s appointments while taking this medication; your doctor will likely need to perform frequent blood tests and other medical tests to make sure Odomzo is safe for you.
Before taking Odomzo, tell your doctor if:
- You have any food or drug allergies
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements
- You have kidney disease
- You have or have had a muscle disorder
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or planning a pregnancy
The most common Odomzo side effects include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, changes in menstrual cycles, muscle spasms, and changes in sense of taste. Although unlikely, Odomzo can cause serious kidney problems. Call your doctor immediately if you experience severe muscle pain or weakness, infrequent urination, dark urine, fever, or unusual fatigue. These are not all the possible side effects of Odomzo; you should talk to your doctor if you experience any other side effects that concern you.
Take the forgotten dose as soon as possible once you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and resume your regular schedule. Don’t take multiple doses at once to make up for a missed one.
Store Odomzo at room temperature, out of reach of children and pets. Don’t keep it in the bathroom, since bright light and moisture can affect its composition. If you have unused or expired medicine, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of it.
If you or someone in your home overdoses on Odomzo, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 to find out what to do. If the person who overdoses is experiencing severe side effects, go to the nearest emergency room.
Odomzo can cause serious birth defects if either a mother or father is taking this medicine at the time of conception. Use a reliable form of birth control while taking this drug if you or your partner is able to become pregnant. Men should not donate sperm while taking Odomzo or for eight months after finishing treatment. Men and women should avoid donating blood during treatment and for twenty months after finishing their last dose.
Odomzo is only available as a brand name drug. While there may not be a cheaper generic equivalent, you can still save by getting an Odomzo coupon from HelpRx. Click ‘Claim Coupon Now’ and follow the instructions to start saving up to 75% on your cancer treatment.
