Onmel Information:

What is Onmel?

Onmel is a type of drug known as an azole antifungal. It is used to treat many different kinds of fungal infections, and it works by stopping the growth of fungus. It is not an effective treatment for viral or bacterial infections.

How do I take Onmel?

Take the Onmel tablet on a full stomach. Do not chew it or break it open; you need to swallow it whole. Do not stop taking Onmel before you have finished your entire prescribed course of treatment, even if you are feeling better. Stopping your treatment too soon may cause the fungal infection to return and be more resistant to antifungal medications.

Before taking Onmel, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to this or any other medications
  • You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements
  • You have kidney or liver disease
  • You have heart problems or have had a stroke
  • You have a breathing disorder, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder
  • You have a personal or family history of QT prolongation
  • You have cystic fibrosis
  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of taking Onmel?

Onmel may cause headaches, dizziness, upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, changes in menstrual cycle, muscle soreness, fever, or mild joint pain. If you have any side effects that bother you, tell your doctor. Stop taking Onmel and call your doctor right away if you have any rare but serious side effects, including severe dizziness, confusion, hearing or vision changes, a pounding heartbeat, severe upper stomach pain, infrequent or painful urination, shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, jaundice, dark urine, loss of appetite, or unusual fatigue.

What if I forget to take a dose of Onmel?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for you to take another tablet. In this case, skip the missed dose and proceed with your normal dosage schedule. Never double your dose to catch up.

How do I store Onmel?

Keep Onmel at room temperature, away from high heat and humidity. Do not store it anywhere that children or pets could easily access it. Since your doctor should only prescribe you as much of the medication as you need to treat your infection, you will most likely not have leftover medicine, but if you do, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of it.

What happens if I overdose on Onmel?

Never take more of this medication than you have been prescribed. If you or someone in your household does overdose, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 right away.

Warnings

If you are using a stomach acid reducer (e.g. Pepcid), drink something acidic (such as a soda) when you take Onmel. Do not take any antacids within one hour before or two hours after Onmel, because it may interfere with the absorption of the medication. Onmel may cause dizziness or confusion, so be careful driving or performing any other activities that require alertness until you know how the medication affects you.
