Oravig Information:
What is Oravig?
Oravig is an antifungal drug used to treat fungal infections of the mouth. It comes as a buccal tablet, which is placed on the gums at the back of the mouth, where it slowly dissolves throughout the day.
How do I take Oravig?
Apply an Oravig tablet to your upper gums at the back of the mouth in the morning after you have brushed your teeth. Press the round side of the tablet against your gum and push gently to keep it in place. Leave the tablet there until it has dissolved (this usually takes about six hours). If the tablet falls off your gums, try pushing it back into place. If it keeps coming loose within the first six hours, take it out and put in a new tablet. If you accidentally swallow it within the first six hours, drink a glass of water and put in a new tablet. You can eat and drink as normal with an Oravig tablet in your mouth, but do not chew gum.
Before taking Oravig, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to this or any other antifungal medications
- You have any other known allergies
- You have any liver problems
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Oravig?
Serious side effects of Oravig are rare, but some people have reported changes in sense of taste, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or mild mouth pain while using this medicine. If you have any side effects that last a long time or begin to concern you, tell your doctor. Contact your doctor immediately if you have a rare but serious side effect, such as burning or pain in your mouth, swollen gums, new mouth sores, tooth problems, severe dizziness, shortness of breath, or a fast heart rate.
What if I forget to take a dose of Oravig?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. In this case, skip the missed one. Do not apply two Oravig tablets to your gums at the same time.
How do I store Oravig?
Keep Oravig at room temperature, away from bright light and moisture. Store it in a tightly sealed container somewhere that children can’t reach.
What happens if I overdose on Oravig?
It is not known if overdosing on Oravig is dangerous. If you are concerned that you or someone in your household has overdosed on this drug, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 to find out what to do.
Warnings
Change sides of the mouth every time you apply a new buccal tablet. Avoid activities that could dislodge the tablet, such as chewing gum or rinsing your mouth forcefully. Use Oravig for the full prescribed time, even if your symptoms have gone away. Stopping an antifungal too early may allow the fungus to return and become more resistant to medication.
Brand Names
At this time, Oravig is only available as a brand name drug. While there may not be a cheaper generic alternative, you can save money by using a HelpRx Oravig coupon.
