This medicine is a dopamine agonist used to treat the signs and symptoms of Parkinson disease. It is also used to treat restless legs syndrome (RLS). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Follow the directions for taking this medicine provided by your doctor. An extra patient leaflet is available with this medicine. Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information. Take this medicine by mouth with or without food. If nausea occurs, take with food to reduce nausea. IF YOU ARE taking this medicine for RLS, you should take this medicine 2 to 3 hours before bedtime, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. YOUR DOSE will be started low and gradually increased to achieve the best results. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR DOSE sooner than recommended. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. DO NOT suddenly stop taking this medicine without checking with your doctor. Severe side effects, including fever, confusion, and stiff muscles, may occur. If you need to stop this medicine your doctor will gradually lower your dose. IF YOU MISS A DOSE of this medicine, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once. IF YOU MISS SEVERAL DOSES, contact your doctor before you start to take this medicine again.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE this medicine if you are taking another medicine that has pramipexole in it. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking cimetidine, levodopa, butyrophenones (eg, haloperidol), metoclopramide, phenothiazines (eg, chlorpromazine), or thioxanthenes (eg, thiothixene). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including kidney problems, low blood pressure, dizziness or fainting when you sit or stand up, sleep problems (eg, daytime sleepiness), allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you drink alcohol or have a history of compulsive behavior (eg, eating, gambling, shopping). Tell your doctor if you have trouble controlling your muscles. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include abnormal dreams; constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; loss of appetite; nausea; stuffy nose; tiredness; trouble sleeping; or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience abnormal thinking; balance problems; change in the amount of urine produced; change in behavior, mood, or emotions; chest pain; confusion; cough; dark urine; decreased sexual ability; difficulty walking; fainting; hallucinations; memory problems; muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness; new or unusual skin growths or change in the appearance of a mole; severe or persistent dizziness, drowsiness, or sleepiness; shortness of breath; sudden irresistible urge to sleep or suddenly falling asleep at unusual times; sudden unexplained weight gain; swelling of the hands, ankles, legs, or feet; trouble swallowing; unusual or intense urges (eg, gambling, sexual urges); unusual twitching or muscle movements; or vision changes. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include fast heartbeat.
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. IF YOU WILL BE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR about how to dispose of unused medicine.
