Sf 5000 Plus Information:
SF 5000 Plus is a concentrated application of sodium fluoride. The high fluoride content increases the tooth’s resistance to dissolution by acid and assists in the penetration of fluoride ions into the tooth enamel. Cavities form when tooth enamel is damaged and harmful agents such as biofilm are able to act on the tooth itself. SF 5000 Plus helps to prevent tooth enamel damage and, therefore, cavities.
SF 5000 Plus is taken once a day by self-application. It works well as a cavity preventive when applied with either an oral applicator or by replacing one tooth brushing a day with a similarly sized amount of SF 5000 Plus dental cream. However, your dentist may make other recommendations which should be followed exactly.
Before taking SF 5000 Plus, tell your doctor if:
- You have allergies to fluoride, food, medicine, or other substances
- You are pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant
- You have existing cavities of which you are aware
- You have excessive oral pain
- You are prone to mouth sores
No common side effects have been reported with the use of this fluoride supplement. Alert a medical professional if you see signs of an allergic reaction, including rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue.
Apply the dose you missed as soon as you can remember to do so. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose that you missed and continue with your regular schedule. Overuse of fluoride supplements can lead to fluorosis.
Keep this medication away from children and pets in a cool, dry place. Avoid overexposure to heat and moisture.
You may experience oral irritation, especially of the gums. Children under 6 years of age may begin to exhibit signs of fluorosis, visible by opaque white or brown discoloration of the tooth enamel. Seek professional assistance or contact Poison Control if you suspect an overdose.
Warnings
This medication is not intended for systemic treatment. Do not swallow this medicine, as it is not intended for use by consumption. Its action works directly on teeth and their enamel. Do not allow children 6 and under to overexpose themselves to fluoride, as they are most vulnerable to fluorosis.
