Symlinpen 120 Information:

What is Symlinpen?

Symlinpen is an add-on to other insulin medications and helps manage blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Symlinpen contains the active ingredient pramlintide, a naturally-occurring hormone that helps to regulate and control blood sugar after meals.

How do I take Symlinpen?
Inject Symlinpen under the skin right before a major meal. Your doctor will give you specific dosing instructions on how to administer Symlinpen based on your condition. You should take the exact Symlinpen dose that your doctor prescribes.

Before taking Symlinpen, tell your doctor if:

  • You are currently taking other medications including vitamins
  • You are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
  • You are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed
  • You have or have had delayed gastric emptying
  • You have any vision problems
  • You cannot check your blood sugar regularly
  • You have had severely low blood sugar multiple times in the past six months

What are the possible side effects of taking Symlinpen?

You may experience low blood sugar levels after taking Symlinpen, which can lead to lightheadedness, dizziness, shakiness, sweating, hunger, fast heartbeat, trouble concentrating, changes in vision, headaches, irritability, and drowsiness. Make sure you are able to recognize the signs of low blood sugar and always have a source of sugar on hand. Call your doctor right away if you experience severe ongoing nausea or signs of severely low blood sugar.

What if I forget to take a dose of Symlinpen?

You should only use Symlinpen right before a meal. If you forget to use the medication and you have already eaten, skip the missed dose and consult with your doctor about your regular insulin medication.

How do I store Symlinpen?

Store your Symlinpen medication in a refrigerator or in a room with a temperature between 36 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Throw away your Symlinpen medication after 30 days of use, even if there is medication left in pen.

What happens if I overdose on Symlinpen?

You may experience extreme low blood sugar levels and pass out if you inject too much Symlinpen. Call 911 immediately if you or someone overdoses on Symlinpen, as the medication may cause life-threating side effects.

Warnings

Your initial dose of Symlinpen may cause drowsiness and sleepiness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how your body reacts to the medication.

Brand Names
