What is Tandem F?
Tandem F is a combination iron and folic acid supplement that is used to treat patients with anemia or low levels of iron or folate in the blood. It is also used to treat and prevent deficiencies of folate and iron in pregnant women.
Tandem F works by replacing iron and folic acid in the body when the body does not produce enough on its own.
How do I use Tandem F?
Tandem F capsules should be taken as directed by your doctor or as instructions indicate on the package. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist for specific dosing instructions or if you have any questions regarding this drug.
Before using Tandem F, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to Tandem F or any other drugs
- You are taking any other medications, vitamins, or herbal or nutritional supplements
- You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or you are breastfeeding
- You have stomach or intestinal problems
- You have had multiple blood transfusions or if you have anemia or another blood disorder
Do not take Tandem F if:

What are the possible side effects of using Tandem F?
Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms and if they do not go away:
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea or vomiting
- Heartburn
- Upset stomach
Contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms:
- black, tarry, or bloody stool
- Severe or persistent vomiting with stomach pain
- Severe allergic reaction: symptoms may include rash, itching, swelling, chest tightness, and breathing difficulties
What if I forget to use a dose of Tandem F?
Take your missed dose of Tandem F as soon as your remember to take it, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dose schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
How do I store Tandem F?
Store this medication tightly closed when not in use. Store it at room temperature and keep away from excess moisture and heat. Keep this medication out of reach of children and away from pets. Properly dispose of any expired or unnecessary medication.
What happens if I overdose on Tandem F?
In case of overdose, call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) to find out what to do, or seek immediate medical attention.
Warnings
- Accidental overdose of products that contain iron is a leading cause of death in children under age 6. Keep this drug out of reach of children.
- Do not let anyone else use your medication.
