Urea Information:
What is urea?
Urea is an organic compound found in mammals that works as a keratolytic. It is indicated for the loosening, debriding and avulsion of devitalized skin and nail tissue. As a topical medication, it helps soften rough skin that has been damaged from various skin conditions.
How do I take urea?
Unless your hands are part of the area of skin that needs to be treated, wash them before and after administering the medication. Apply urea to the affected skin as directed by your doctor. Rub the cream in gently until the medicine is completely absorbed.
Before taking urea, tell your doctor if:
- You are pregnant, breast-feeding, or planning to become pregnant
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medicine
- You are taking an herbal preparation or dietary supplement
- You have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
- You have open wounds or damaged skin in the affected area
What are the possible side effects of taking urea?
Urea is a topical medication that may cause mild side effects such as temporary burning, itching, irritation, or stinging. Seek medical help immediately if you notice signs of an allergic reaction, redness, or severe or persistent burning or irritation.
What if I forget to take a dose of urea?
If you are on a regular dosing schedule of urea and you miss a dose, try to use urea as soon as possible. If it has become nearly time for your next dose, skip your missed dose and take only the following dose. Do not take more than one dose at a time.
How do I store urea?
Store urea at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit (15 and 30 degrees Celsius). Store urea away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep urea out of reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on urea?
Contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or get to an emergency room as quickly as possible if you suspect an overdose.
Warnings
The drug urea is for external use only. Keep the medicine away from your eyes, nose, mouth, or lips. Rinse right away with cool water if it gets into any of these areas.
