What is Urogesic-Blue?

Urogesic-Blue combines hyoscyamine (an anti-spasmodic), methenamine and methylene blue (anti-bacterial drugs), and sodium phosphate (a form of phosphorus) into a single tablet that is prescribed to treat bladder discomfort, burning, or pain caused by urinary tract infections or to prevent bladder discomfort during certain medical procedures. It works by killing bacteria, reducing urinary tract spasms, and decreasing bladder and urinary tract inflammation.

How do I take Urogesic-Blue?

Urogesic-Blue is tablet that is taken orally with water and without regard to food. The amount taken and the frequency of dosing will be determined by your healthcare provider; follow the dosing instructions exactly. Do not crush, chew, lick, chew, or split the tablet. Do not stop taking this medication without the approval of your doctor. Urogesic-Blue may change the color of your urine or stools to blue or green; this is normal. Drink plenty of liquids while you are taking this medication.

Before taking Urogesic-Blue, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to methenamine, hyoscyamine, methylene blue, sodium phosphate, or any of the ingredients in the Urogesic-Blue tablets
  • You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
  • You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
  • You are taking a solid oral potassium product, sulfonamide, diuretics, anticholinergics, ketoconazole, or narcotic pain medications
  • You are taking phenothiazine, urinary alkalinizers, or medications to treat mood or mental disorders
  • You have, or have had, myasthenia gravis, gout, G6PD deficiency, low-angle glaucoma or are at risk for glaucoma, bladder problems, an enlarged prostate, high blood levels of potassium or sodium, or an inability to urinate
  • You are on a low-sodium diet
  • You have, or have had, a mental or mood disorder, arrhythmia, hypertension, heart problems, or heart, liver, or kidney disease.

What are the possible side effects of taking Urogesic-Blue?

Some people have reported side effects after taking Urogesic-Blue. Less severe symptoms include flushing, dry mouth, nausea, or vomiting. If these conditions persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider.

Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (rash, hives, itching, peeling or blistered skin; swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue; difficulty breathing or swallowing), tachycardia, arrhythmia, shortness of breath, dizziness, blurred vision, or problems urinating.

What if I forget to take a dose of Urogesic-Blue?

If you forget to take your scheduled dose of Urogesic-Blue, do so as soon as your remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the one missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the dosage or change the regimen to make up for one that was missed.

How do I store Urogesic-Blue?

Store Urogesic-Blue at room temperature in its original container, out of the reach of the reach of children and away from direct sunlight and the extremes of temperature and humidity. Dispose of any unused tablets according to the instructions of your pharmacist.

What happens if I overdose on Urogesic-Blue?

If an overdose of Urogesic-Blue is suspected, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.

Warnings

Tell your doctor if you become pregnant while taking Urogesic-Blue. Take loperamide-based antidiarrheal or antacid medications at least an hour before or an hour after taking Urogesic-Blue. Take ketoconazole at least two hours before taking this medication. Urogesic-Blue may cause dizziness; do not drive, operate heavy machinery or equipment, use power tools, or handle firearms until its effects are known. Contact your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.
