Virasal Information:
What is Virasal?
Virasal is a topical treatment for plantar warts that contains 27.5% salicylic acid. The average over the counter acne spot treatment contains only around 2% salicylic acid. Virasal works by creating a film over the wart, sealing in the salicylic acid. The salicyclic acid has keratolytic properties, meaning it softens keratin and causes the skin to dry and shed.
How do I take Virasal?
To improve the efficacy of Virasal, soak the wart in warm water for five minutes before applying the medication. Use a wash cloth, emery board or other exfoliating tool to remove any dead skin. Wash this tool with soap and water after use to avoid contamination. Allow the area to dry, then use the applicator brush that comes with Virasal to apply a thin layer of medication. Be careful to apply this medication only to the wart. Virasal will likely need to be applied once daily. Follow the instructions of your doctor or dermatologist. Improvement should be seen within a couple of weeks. Complete treatment may take up to six weeks. Virasal is waterproof, so you will not need to worry about reapplying every time you wash your hands.
Before taking Virasal, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any medications or skin products.
- You are using any other skin products on the affected area.
- You have diabetes or circulation problems.
What are the possible side effects of using Virasal?
Side effects from using Virasal include stinging and irritation at the site of application. If irritation becomes severe or if you have an allergic reaction, tell your doctor as soon as possible.
What if I forget to apply a dose of Virasal?
If you forget to apply a dose of Virasal, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next application, skip the missed one and continue on your regular routine.
How do I store Virasal?
Store Virasal tightly closed in its original container and at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep Virasal out of reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Virasal?
Overuse of Virasal will likely result in skin irritation. If someone accidentally ingests Virasal, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Do not use Virasal on warts that have hair growing from them. Do not use it on moles or other skin growths. Do not apply it on the face or genitals. Keep this medication away from sensitive tissues. If you accidentally get it in your eyes or another sensitive area, flush with cool water immediately.
