What is Xeomin?
Xeomin is made from the bacteria that causes botulism. When injected into a muscle, this drug can treat muscle spasms or temporarily reduce the appearance of frown lines. It can also be used to treat nerve disorder-related eye muscle conditions, such as eyelid spasms or uncontrolled blinking.
How do I use Xeomin?
Xeomin is injected by a healthcare professional. Doses are usually spaced 3 months apart. One injection may be given in more than one area, depending on your condition. If you are using Xeomin to treat neck muscle spasms, it may take up to a week before you notice your symptoms improving.
Before using Xeomin, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to this medication or have any other allergies
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements
- You have received any other botulinum toxin injections (such as Botox)
- You will be having facial surgery

The most commonly reported side effects of Xeomin include muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, temporary vision changes, muscle weakness, neck pain, headache, tiredness, or discomfort at the injection site. Side effects usually don’t last long, but tell your doctor if you have any conditions that become severe or persist more than a couple weeks after an injection. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the following uncommon side effects: severe skin rash, severe lightheadedness, eye pain, wheezing or difficulty breathing, muscle weakness in an area that was not injected, or loss of bladder control.
What if I forget to use a dose of Xeomin?
Since Xeomin is administered by a healthcare provider, forgetting a dose should not be an issue. If you do miss an appointment for a Xeomin injection, contact your doctor to find out what to do.
How do I store Xeomin?
You will not need to store Xeomin since it is administered in a medical facility.
What happens if I overdose on Xeomin?
Overdose symptoms may not appear immediately after an injection. If you experience severe muscle weakness, weak breathing, difficulty swallowing, or loss of movement anywhere in your body, get emergency medical attention.
Warnings
Because Xeomin can cause temporary vision impairment, you should avoid driving or performing any other tasks that require clear vision until you know you can do so safely.
