Xolegel Information:
What is Xolegel?
Xolegel is an azole antifungal medication used to treat a skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis. When left untreated, seborrheic dermatitis can cause flaky or red patches of skin, itching, stinging, and redness or crusting around the eyelids. Xolegel helps kill the bacteria that is believed to cause this condition.
How do I take Xolegel?
Apply Xolegel to the affected skin areas only as often as your doctor has instructed you to. Your doctor will likely tell you to use this topical drug once a day for two weeks. Wash your hands before using this medication, and then use your fingertips to evenly spread a thin layer of the gel on the affected skin patches. Wash your hands when you are done. Do not apply any makeup or sunscreen to these areas for at least twenty minutes after using Xolegel, and do not wash the areas for at least three hours.
Before taking Xolegel, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to this or any other medications
- You have any other allergies
- You are using any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Xolegel?
Xolegel may cause some skin irritation. If you experience any redness, dryness, or burning that is particularly bothersome or that doesn’t go away as your body adjusts to the medication, tell your doctor. Contact your doctor right away if you have any rare but serious side effects, such as eye swelling or blisters and open sores on the application sites.
What if I forget to take a dose of Xolegel?
Try to use Xolegel at the same time every day to help you remember. If you do forget, apply the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your normal schedule. Do not apply a thicker layer of the gel than you normally would.
How do I store Xolegel?
Keep Xolegel at room temperature, out of reach of children and pets. Because it is flammable, you should avoid storing or using it anywhere near open flame. Keep it out of the bathroom, as humidity and bright light can negatively affect it. If you need to get rid of unused or expired medication, ask your pharmacist how to safely do so.
What happens if I overdose on Xolegel?
Applying too much Xolegel to your skin may cause irritation, but it is unlikely that you will overdose when using the medication topically. However, this medicine may be harmful if swallowed, so you should call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) if you or anyone in your household swallows some of this gel.
Warnings
Do not use Xolegel any more frequently than your doctor has told you to; this will not help your condition improve any faster, and it may increase your risk of side effects. Avoid getting this medication in your nose, eyes, or mouth, and flush with water immediately if you accidentally get some of the gel in any of these areas.
Brand Name
Xolegel is currently only available as a brand name drug. While there may not be a cheaper generic alternative, you can still save significantly when you use a Xolegel coupon or savings card from HelpRx.
