Yondelis Information:

Yondelis is the drug trabectedin, an alkylating agent that is prescribed to treat liposarcoma or leiomyosarcoma, cancers that begin in fat cells or smooth muscle tissue, respectively, that have spread to other parts of the body. It is used when the cancer cannot be addressed surgically in individuals who have already been treated with certain chemotherapy medications. Yondelis stops or slows the growth of cancer cells.

Yondelis is administered intravenously by a qualified doctor or nurse in a medical setting. It starts as a powder that is then mixed with a liquid. It is administered over a 24-hour period, typically once every three weeks. However, the actual dosing schedule will be determined by the condition being treated and the medical profile of the patient.

Before taking Yondelis, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to trabectedin or any of the ingredients in Yondelis
  • You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
  • You are taking any medications, vitamins, or supplements (especially St. John’s wort)
  • You have kidney or liver disease

Side effects have been reported by some who have been administered Yondelis. Mild symptoms include constipation, decreased appetite, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, joint pain, or sleep difficulties. Should these appear and persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Severe side effects that require immediate medical attention include chest pain or tightness, confusion, signs of an allergic reaction, difficulty concentrating, fever, muscle pain or weakness, nausea, pain in the upper stomach area, pale skin, redness, swelling, itchiness and discomfort or leakage at the injection site, severe dizziness or lightheadedness, shortness of breath, unusual bruising or bleeding, vomiting, breathing difficulties, and symptoms of jaundice or liver damage.

If you miss your scheduled appointment for receiving Yondelis, contact your doctor immediately to reschedule.

The Yondelis drug will be stored with your healthcare provider.

Because Yondelis is administered in a healthcare facility by a doctor or nurse, an overdose is unlikely. If one should occur, the on-site medical personnel will administer needed care.

Yondelis may cause infertility; however, precautions should still be taken to prevent pregnancy. Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while taking Yondelis as this medication increases the risk of losing or harming a fetus. Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking this medication. Do not breastfeed while receiving this medication.

Yondelis is the brand name of the drug trabectedin; it is not available under any other brand. To lower the Yondelis price by up to 75% when paying for it, download or print the Yondelis cost-cutting coupon from the HelpRx website.
