Yosprala Information:

Yosprala contains a combination of aspirin (an NSAID) and omeprazole (a proton pump inhibitor). This medication is intended for use by patients who need to take aspirin on a daily basis but are at risk for experiencing gastrointestinal side effects such as stomach bleeding. Omeprazole helps prevent stomach bleeding and gastric ulcers.

Take Yosprala once daily, at least an hour before eating. Swallow tablets whole with plenty of water. Don’t change your dosing schedule without first talking to your doctor.

Before taking Yosprala, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to aspirin, omeprazole, or any other drugs
  • You are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter drugs or supplements
  • You have any medical condition that causes breathing difficulties
  • You regularly drink three or more alcoholic beverages per day
  • You have low magnesium levels in your blood
  • You have a history of bleeding problems
  • You have kidney or liver problems
  • You are of Asian descent and have been told your body may not be able to metabolize omeprazole efficiently
  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

The most commonly-reported Yosprala side effects include upset stomach, heartburn, mild chest pain, nausea, and diarrhea. Tell your doctor as soon as possible if you experience dizziness, jitteriness, muscle aches or weakness, an irregular heart rate, spasms in your hand or feet, seizures, shortness of breath, pale skin, fatigue, unusual mood changes, numbness or tingling, jaundice, abdominal pain, dark urine, changes in urination, or skin rash. Stop taking Yosprala and contact your doctor immediately if you cough up blood, have vomit that looks like coffee grounds, have black or bloody stools, or experience severe stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting.

Take the forgotten dose as soon as possible once you remember, unless it’s almost time for your next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Don’t take two doses at once unless your doctor gives you permission to do so.

Keep Yosprala in its original container and store it at room temperature, out of reach of children and pets. Don’t expose the medication to moisture or high heat.

If you believe that you or someone in your home has overdosed on Yosprala, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the person who overdosed is experiencing severe side effects, go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

Limit your alcohol consumption while taking Yosprala. Drinking alcohol while taking aspirin-containing medications increases your risk of stomach bleeding. Don’t suddenly stop taking Yosprala without talking to your doctor. Suddenly stopping treatment with this medication may increase your risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Because Yosprala is a newer combination drug, the FDA has not yet approved a generic equivalent. While you may not be able to save money by switching to a generic version, you can save by getting a Yosprala coupon from HelpRx. Print or download your coupon now for savings of up to 75% on your next prescription fill.
