Zamicet Information:

What is Zamicet?

Zamicet contains two active ingredients: acetaminophen (a pain reliever and fever reducer) and hydrocodone (an opioid). This liquid medication is used to treat moderate to severe pain and may be prescribed to patients who have trouble swallowing pills. It is approved for use by adults and children 2 years and older.

How do I take Zamicet?

Take Zamicet by mouth with or without food. If you find that Zamicet makes you feel nauseated, you may be able to reduce your nausea by taking your medication with food. Follow your doctor’s dosing instructions carefully, and never take this medication more frequently or at a higher dosage than you have been prescribed.

Before taking Zamicet, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to this or any other narcotics, or you have any other allergies
  • You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements
  • You have any breathing problems, such as asthma or COPD
  • You have kidney or liver disease
  • You have a history of mental illness
  • You have a personal or family history of drug or alcohol abuse
  • You have any stomach or intestinal problems, such as an intestinal blockage
  • You have gallbladder disease
  • You have pancreatitis
  • You have diabetes
  • You have difficulty urinating
  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of taking Zamicet?

The most common side effects of Zamicet include dizziness, drowsiness, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, unusual tiredness, and shortness of breath. If any of these side effects last a long time or get worse, inform your doctor. Contact your doctor right away if you experience unusual mental changes (such as agitation or hallucinations) or difficulty urinating. Get emergency medical attention in the unlikely event that you experience difficulty breathing, severe drowsiness, fainting, or seizures.

What if I forget to take a dose of Zamicet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is within four hours of your next scheduled dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and get back to your regular schedule. Never take two doses less than four hours apart, as this can increase your risk of side effects.

How do I store Zamicet?

Store Zamicet at room temperature. Keep the lid of the medication tightly sealed when not in use, and do not leave the bottle somewhere that children or pets can easily access. If you no longer need this medication or it has expired, talk to your pharmacist about how to properly dispose of it.

What happens if I overdose on Zamicet?

Overdosing on Zamicet can be life-threatening; if you suspect that you or someone in your household has overdosed, call 911 right away. Overdose symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, slowed breathing, muscle weakness, clammy skin, severe drowsiness, and loss of consciousness.

Warnings

Dizziness and drowsiness are possible side effects of Zamicet, so avoid driving or performing other activities that require alertness until you know you can do so safely. If you have any conditions that require you to limit or avoid sugar or alcohol consumption, tell your doctor before taking this medication. Zamicet can be addictive, so never take it for longer or at higher dosages than it has been prescribed to you.

Brand Names

At this time, Zamicet is only available as a brand name drug. While there may not be a cheaper generic alternative, you can get a maximum discount of 75% with a Zamicet coupon from HelpRx.
