What is Lasix?

Lasix is a prescription diuretic that increases the amount of urine discharged from the body in order to remove excess water and salts. What are the possible side effects of taking Lasix?

When taking Lasix, side effects are a possibility, some being more severe than others are. Less severe side effects include blurred vision, headaches, dizziness or confusion, restlessness, excessive thirst, upset stomach, vomiting, or constipation, or muscle cramping or weakness. If you experience any of these and they persist or worsen, contact your healthcare professional.

Some Lasix side effects may be severe and require immediate medical attention. These symptoms include signs of an allergic reaction (swelling of the lips, tongue, mouth, or throat; difficulty swallowing or breathing; rash; itching); tinnitus, fever, sudden and extreme weight loss, sore throat, or unusual bruising or bleeding. In addition, if you experience any unusual symptoms you think may be related to your Lasix medication, contact your doctor.

• Missed Dose

What if I forget to take a dose of Lasix?

If you forget to take your scheduled dose of Lasix medication, take it as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is within six hours of your next dose, skip the missed Lasix pill, and resume the normal schedule. Do not take multiple doses of this medication to make up for a missed one.

How do I store Lasix?

Your Lasix medication should be stored at room temperature in its original container. Keep it away from extremes of temperature and out of the reach of children. Dispose of unused or expired Lasix pills according to the recommendations of your physician.

What happens if I overdose on Lasix?

If you suspect an overdose of Lasix, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-2122. If the individual has stopped breathing or lapsed into unconsciousness, contact Emergency Services immediately by calling 911.

Lasix may increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight; wear sunblock and protective clothing when outside until you are sure you are not experiencing any Lasix side effects. This medication may cause leg cramps during sleep. Contact your physician if you become pregnant while taking the Lasix drug. Do not nurse a child while you are taking Lasix.
