This medicine is an appetite suppressant used along with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy for the short-term management of obesity.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. TAKE THIS MEDICINE ABOUT 1 HOUR before meals. TAKE YOUR LAST DOSE OF THE DAY at least 4 to 6 hours before bedtime, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Do not store in the bathroom. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are taking another anorectic medicine (eg, phentermine) or if you have taken one within the past year. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking guanadrel or guanethidine, or if you have taken furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine) within the past 14 days. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking insulin or oral diabetes medicine (eg, glyburide). DO NOT START OR STOP ANY MEDICINE without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. TELL YOUR DOCTOR if you have had any type of unusual reaction to a sympathomimetic medicine (eg, pseudoephedrine, albuterol). USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have glaucoma; an overactive thyroid; moderate, severe, or uncontrolled high blood pressure; or if you are highly nervous or agitated. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of drug abuse; stroke; high blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension); uncontrolled high blood pressure; or heart problems (eg, heart blood vessel disease, heart failure, irregular heartbeat, heart murmur, heart valve problems). USE OF THIS MEDICINE is not recommended if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Use of this medicine in children under age 12 is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving this medicine to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, flushing, headache, nausea, overstimulation, restlessness, or trouble sleeping. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience blurred vision; changes in sex drive; chest, jaw, or arm pain; fast or irregular heartbeat; frequent urination or trouble urinating; hallucinations; mental or mood changes; seizures; severe or persistent headache or dizziness; shortness of breath; stomach pain; sudden, severe nausea or vomiting; tremor; or unusual sweating. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include coma; confusion; diarrhea; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; hallucinations; mental or mood changes (eg, depression); nausea; panic attack; restlessness; seizures; severe dizziness or headache; stomach cramps; unusual tiredness; or vomiting.
