What is primidone?
Primidone is a barbiturate anticonvulsant, used to treat tremors. It works by inhibiting the walls of the cells from rapid-firing. Unlike other seizure medications, it is not used to treat some mental conditions, only seizures, migraines, and neuropathic pain. It is also far less toxic than phenobarbital.

Other common side effects include drowsiness, listlessness, visual disturbances, headache, dizziness, intermittent nausea and vomiting, involuntary eye movement, loss of appetite, excitation, and lack of voluntary muscle coordination. Report any persistent or severe side effects to your doctor.
What if I forget to take a dose of primidone?
Primidone works best if it remains at a consistent level. Take primidone at the same time each day. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if you remember and it’s nearly time for your next appointed dose, simply take your dose as scheduled.
How do I store primidone?
Store away from heat or moisture, outside of the bathroom. Store primidone at room temperature.
What happens if I overdose on primidone?
If you take more than the prescribed amount, get emergency medical help or contact your poison control center: 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Take primidone exactly as prescribed. Do not stop taking primidone once you start. If you need to stop taking primidone, talk to your doctor about gradually reducing your dosage.
A small percentage of patients who take primidone experience depression and suicidal thoughts. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience depression while taking primidone.
