Relpax Information:
What is Relpax?
Relpax is an anti-migraine medication of the Serotonin Receptor Agonist class that works by narrowing blood vessels associated with the brain, restricting blood flow, and helping to reduce the pain, nausea, and sensitivity to sound and light that accompanies migraine headaches. It can only treat migraines that have already begun and will not prevent them. Because the Relpax cost can put a strain on your budget, those without a Relpax copay card may find managing costs difficult. To lower the price, download and use the Relpax discount coupon from HelpRx.
How do I take Relpax?
Relpax is administered in tablet form and is taken orally at the first sign(s) of the onset of a migraine headache. If your symptoms improve after taking the Relpax drug, but return after two hours, another dose may be taken. However, if the symptoms do not improve after taking the initial dose of Relpax, contact your doctor for additional Relpax patient assistance; do not take another dose unless approved by your physician.
Before taking Relpax, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to eletriptan, any of the ingredients in Relpax, or any medications
- If you are pregnant, are planning a pregnancy, or nursing a child
- You smoke or are overweight
- You have diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol
- You have, or have had, liver, kidney, heart disease, or a heart attack, angina, arrhythmia or tachycardia
- You have ischemic bowel disease, Raynaud’s disease, or circulation problems
- You are taking any medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You are taking SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors), SNRIs (selective serotonin/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors), ergot-type medications, antidepressants, NSAIDS, acetaminophen, phenelzine, isocarboxazid, selegiline, or tranylcypromine
What are the possible side effects of taking Relpax?
Some patients have reported side effects after taking Relpax. Less severe symptoms include dizziness and sleepiness, general malaise and weakness, dry mouth, headache, nausea and upset stomach, heartburn, and feeling flushed or chilled. If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, contact your doctor immediately.
Severe side effects of Relpax that require immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (hives, rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, throat, mouth, or tongue, or difficulty breathing or swallowing); vomiting, bloody diarrhea, slurred or incoherent speech, shortness of breath, arrhythmia or tachycardia, constipation, or sudden or severe stomach pain.
What if I forget to take a dose of Relpax?
Because Relpax is taken only after migraine symptoms appear, and not on a prescribed schedule, missing a dose is unlikely. However, if you take a dose once your migraine has commenced and there is no improvement, do not take a second dose, but contact your doctor for instructions. When filling or refilling a Relpax prescription, use the Relpax coupon found on the HelpRx website.
How do I store Relpax?
Keep the Relpax drug tightly sealed in its original packaging away from the extremes of temperature and humidity and out of the reach of children. Dispose of any unused or expired tablets according to the instructions of your pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Relpax?
In the event of an overdose, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 for Relpax patient assistance. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.
Warnings
Do not use Relpax to treat common tension headaches or any headaches that have symptoms different from the migraines your normally experience. Do not take Relpax within 72 hours of taking ketoconazole, itraconazole, nefazodone, ritonavir, clarithromycin, or nelfinavir.
