Sutent Information:

What is Sutent?

Prescription Sutent is a cancer drug that can treat advanced kidney cancer, gastrointestinal tumors, and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. The active ingredient in Sutent, sunitinb malate, works by blocking the division of cells and preventing the growth of new blood vessels that cam form into cancerous tumors. It is important to note that Sutent may not work the same way in every patient, and the reduction of cancer cells may be different for every case. Talk to your doctor to determine if Sutent is right for your condition.

How do I take Sutent?

Follow your doctor’s instructions on how to take Sutent. This medication should be taken once daily, with or without food. Certain types of cancers require medication cycles that should be followed very carefully. Do not cut, chew, or open Sutent capsules. Avoid drinking or eating grapefruit as it may cause an increase in the amount of Sutent in the body.

Before taking Sutent, tell your doctor if:

  • You have heart problems
  • You have high blood pressure
  • You have thyroid problems
  • You have history of kidney disease
  • You have a bleeding problem

There are serious side effects associated with Sutent, such as heart failure, heart attack or heart muscle problems that can lead to death. Taking medications like Sutent may also cause high blood pressure and bleeding that can lead to death.

What if I forget to take a dose of Sutent?

If you forget to take a dose of Sutent, take it as soon as you remember. It is important not to double up on the amount of Sutent you take to make up for a missed dose, as this may cause serious adverse reactions.
