Trifluoperazine is a generic antipsychotic drug that comes in tablet form and it is prescribed for the treatment of symptoms of schizophrenia. It may also be used for short periods of time to treat anxiety, typically as a treatment alternative for patients with anxiety for whom other medications have not helped. This medication acts on the brain to decrease abnormal levels of excitement.
Trifluoperazine tablets should be taken orally and they are typically prescribed to be taken 1 or 2 times per day. Consult with your doctor for specific instructions for use of this medication.
Before using Trifluoperazine, tell your doctor if:

you are allergic to Trifluoperazine or any other medications

What are the possible side effects of using Trifluoperazine?
Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms and if they do not go away:

dizziness or blurred vision

stuffed nose

Nausea, headache, or fatigue

difficulty urinating

widening or narrowing of the pupils

constipation

changes in appetite or weight gain

agitation or nervousness
-
unusual, slowed, or uncontrollable movements of any part of the body

difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep

weakness

breast enlargement or breast milk production

missed menstrual periods

Contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms:

fever, sweating, or flu-like symptoms

sore throat, chills, and other signs of infection

muscle stiffness or neck cramps

confusion

rapid or irregular heartbeat

yellowing of the skin or eyes

tongue that sticks out of the mouth

tightness in the throat

difficulty breathing
-
difficulty swallowing

uncontrollable, rhythmic face, mouth, or jaw movements

seizures
-
blisters, rash, hives, or itching
-
swelling of the eyes, face, mouth, lips, tongue, throat, hands, feet, or limbs
- vision loss
-
erection that lasts for hours
Take your missed dose of Trifluoperazine as soon as your remember to take it, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dose schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Store this medication tightly closed when not in use. Store it at room temperature and keep away from excess moisture and heat. Keep this medication out of reach of children and away from pets. Properly dispose of any expired or unnecessary medication.

Symptoms of overdose of Trifluoperazine may include the following:
