Tussionex Information:

This medicine is an antihistamine and narcotic cough suppressant combination used to temporarily treat cough and relieve runny nose, sneezing, or watery eyes due to colds, allergies, or flu. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS for using this medicine provided by your doctor. An additional patient information leaflet is available with this medicine. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this information. TAKE THIS MEDICINE by mouth with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation. SHAKE WELL before taking a dose. Use a measuring device marked for medicine dosing. Ask your pharmacist for help if you are unsure of how to measure this dose. DO NOT dilute or mix this medicine with liquids or other medicines. Doing so may change how this medicine works. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), in a tightly closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE and you are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking sodium oxybate (GHB). ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking anticholinergics (eg, hyoscyamine, oxybutynin), buprenorphine, cimetidine, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (eg, phenelzine), naloxone, naltrexone, rifamycins (eg, rifampin), or tricyclic antidepressants (eg, amitriptyline). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or other lung or breathing problems (eg, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, sleep apnea, slow or irregular breathing); chronic cough; severe drowsiness; stomach pain; recent brain or head injury; increased pressure in the brain; brain lesions or tumor; epilepsy or seizures; poor health; allergies; pregnancy; or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have a history of adrenal gland problems (eg, Addison disease); heart problems (eg, cor pulmonale, slow or irregular heartbeat); glaucoma or increased pressure in the eyes; kidney or liver problems; low blood pressure; low blood volume; stomach or bowel problems (eg, inflammation, pseudomembranous colitis); chronic constipation; a blockage of your stomach, bladder, or bowel; gallbladder problems; difficulty urinating; an enlarged prostate gland or other prostate problems; thyroid problems; alcohol or substance abuse; mental or mood problems (eg, depression); or suicidal thoughts or behaviors. Tell your doctor if you drink alcohol, if you have had recent surgery or plan to have surgery, or if you are very overweight. Use of this medicine in children under age 6 is not recommended. They may be more sensitive to the serious and possibly life-threatening breathing problems from this medicine. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving this medicine to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include constipation; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth, throat, or nose; excitement; nausea; stomach upset; or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience confusion; difficulty urinating; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; mental or mood changes (eg, anxiety, fear); severe or persistent constipation or stomach pain; severe or persistent drowsiness; shallow or very slow breathing; or sluggishness. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your health care provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include bluish skin; cold and clammy skin; coma; cofusion; deep sleep or loss of consciousness; difficult, slow, or shallow breathing; fainting; hallucinations; limp muscles; pinpoint or enlarged pupils; severe or persistent dizziness, drowsiness, or light-headedness; or slow heartbeat.
