Analpram E Information:
What is Analpram E?
Analpram E is a combination topical drug containing hydrocortisone (a corticosteroid) and pramoxine (an anesthetic). It is primarily used to treat hemorrhoids and other rectal skin problems, but it may also be used to treat certain other types of skin irritation with the permission of your healthcare provider. Pramoxine helps numb the affected area, while hydrocortisone reduces inflammation in order to relieve pain and discomfort.
How do I take Analpram E?
Always wash your hands before and after using Analpram E, and follow the instructions on the medication packaging carefully. Clean the affected area before each application, and then carefully apply a small amount of the Analpram E ointment or foam. Do not bandage or apply any other tight covering to the affected area without first talking to your doctor.
Before taking Analpram E, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to hydrocortisone, pramoxine, or any other numbing agents
- You have any other known allergies
- You are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medications or supplements, especially any medications that suppress your immune system
- You have liver disease
- You have diabetes
- You have eye problems, such as glaucoma
- You have rectal sores or a rectal infection
- You have a stomach or intestinal disorder
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Analpram E?
The most common side effects of Analpram E are mild redness, swelling, or thinning of the skin at the application site. This medication may also cause temporary numbing of areas where it is accidentally applied; for this reason, you should do your best to contain the topical drug to the affected area. Stop using Analpram E and contact your doctor immediately if you have changes in vision, changes in mood or mental state, difficulty sleeping, sudden weight gain, muscle weakness, or fatigue, as these may be signs that your body has absorbed too much of the medicine. You should also call your doctor right away if you experience severe skin irritation or rectal bleeding.
What if I forget to take a dose of Analpram E?
If your doctor has instructed you to apply Analpram E on an as-needed basis, missing a dose will not be an issue. If you are applying this medication on a schedule, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your normal schedule.
How do I store Analpram E?
Keep Analpram E tightly sealed when not in use, and store it at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Do not leave it anywhere that children or pets can access. If you no longer need this medication or it has expired, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of it.
What happens if I overdose on Analpram E?
Overdosing on this topical medication is not expected to be life-threatening, but absorbing too much of the drug may lead to adverse effects, including easy bruising, changes in menstrual cycle, thinning of skin, changes in shape and location of body fat, increased facial hair growth, and decreased sexual interest or performance. If you believe that you or someone in your household has overdosed, or if someone in your home has swallowed some of this drug, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Apply Analpram E only where it has been prescribed, and do not use it on the affected area if you have any cuts, burns, blisters, or open sores. Do not apply any more of this topical medication than your doctor has told you to; using large amounts of Analpram E will not relieve your skin irritation any faster and may increase your risk of adverse effects.
Brand Names
Analpram E is a brand name drug. The FDA-approved generic equivalent is hydrocortisone/pramoxine. This generic version is usually less expensive, so ask your doctor if this medication will work for your condition. If your doctor decides to prescribe Analpram E or another brand name hemorrhoid medication, use a coupon or discount card from HelpRx to reduce your out-of-pocket expense.
