This medicine is an aromatase inhibitor used for treating breast cancer in women who have been through menopause, including women with disease progression after tamoxifen therapy. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Follow the directions for taking this medicine provided by your doctor. AN EXTRA PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET is available with this medicine. Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information. TAKE THIS MEDICINE by mouth with or without food. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C) in a tightly closed container away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. DO NOT take 2 doses at once. IF MORE THAN ONE DOSE IS MISSED, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF you are taking estrogen-containing products (eg, certain birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy) or tamoxifen. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including a history of liver problems, osteoporosis (weak bones), heart or blood vessel problems (eg, ischemic heart disease), high cholesterol or lipid levels, allergies, or if you are breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have not gone through menopause or if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED in men. Use of this medicine in CHILDREN is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving this medicine to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include anxiety; back, bone, breast, joint, muscle, or pelvic pain; constipation; cough; diarrhea; dizziness; flu-like symptoms (eg, muscle aches, tiredness); hair loss; headache; hot flashes; loss of appetite; mild stomach pain; nausea; sore throat; stomach upset; sweating; trouble sleeping; vaginal dryness; vomiting; weakness; or weight gain. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience burning, numbness, or tingling sensation; calf or leg pain, swelling, or tenderness; chest pain; confusion; fainting; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; frequent or painful urination; mental or mood changes (eg, depression); numbness of an arm or leg; one-sided weakness; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; severe or persistent bone pain; severe or persistent dizziness or headache; severe or persistent tiredness or weakness; shortness of breath; skin growths, sores, or blisters; speech problems; sudden, severe headache; swelling of the arms or legs; swollen lymph nodes; symptoms of liver problems (eg, yellowing of the skin or eyes; dark urine; severe or persistent nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain; general feeling of being unwell); tingling, pain, coldness, or weakness in the fingers, wrists, or hands; vaginal bleeding or unusual discharge; or vision changes. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing or swallowing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, throat, or tongue; or unusual hoarseness. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
