Avapro Information:
What is Avapro?
Avapro is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It helps lower blood pressure by preventing blood vessels from restricting, which allows blood to circulate more easily. In addition to being used to treat dangerously high blood pressure, it can also be prescribed to people with diabetes to slow the progression of kidney disease.
How do I take Avapro?
Your specific dosage of the Avapro drug will depend on your condition, so follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. Take Avapro by mouth with or without food as often as your doctor has directed. To make it easier to remember, try to take the Avapro medicine at the same time every day.
Before taking Avapro, tell your doctor if:
• You are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medication
• You have any other allergies
• You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements, especially potassium supplements
• You have liver or kidney disease
• You frequently become dehydrated
• You have congestive heart failure
• You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Avapro?
Most people who use the Avapro drug do not experience serious side effects. However, some people have reported dizziness, drowsiness, or upset stomach, especially when their body is first adjusting to the medication. Rare but more serious side effects may include muscle weakness, a slow heartbeat, decreased urination, rapid weight gain, vomiting, and severe lower back pain. If you have any of these side effects, call your doctor as soon as possible.
What if I forget to take a dose of Avapro?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and get back to your regular medication schedule. Never increase your dose of the Avapro medicine in an effort to catch up.
How do I store Avapro?
Store Avapro at room temperature. Do not store it in the bathroom, as bright light and moisture can negatively affect it. As with all prescription medications, keep Avapro in a tightly sealed container out of reach of any children or pets in your home. If you no longer need this medication or it has expired, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of it.
What happens if I overdose on Avapro?
Overdosing on Avapro is dangerous and may lead to severe dizziness or fainting. If you or anyone in your household has overdosed, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. If the person who overdosed has lost consciousness, call 911 immediately.
Warnings
The Avapro drug may cause dizziness, so make sure to stand up slowly after taking a dose. You should also avoid driving or participating in any other activities that require clear focus until you know how the medication affects you. Do not drink alcohol while taking Avapro, as this may exacerbate certain side effects. Do not take any salt or potassium supplements while taking Avapro unless you have gotten approval from your doctor.
