What is Belviq?

Belviq is the brand name of the drug lorcaserin, a medication used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help obese patients lose weight. What are the possible side effects of taking Belviq?

Some patients have reported side effects while taking Belviq. Less severe side effects include toothache, back or muscle pain, headache, fatigue, dry mouth, dry eyes, dizziness, sleep difficulties, problems urinating, constipation, cough, vision problems, and anxiety. However, if any of these problems persist or worsen, contact your doctor for assistance.

Severe side effects that require immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue; hives, rash, and severe and persistent itching, or difficulty breathing or swallowing); male breast enlargement; arrhythmia or tachycardia; hallucinations, confusion, restlessness, euphoria, agitation, and coordination problems; muscle spasms; fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting; attention or memory problems; an erection lasting longer than four hours; discharge from the breasts; depression and thoughts of suicide.

What if I forget to take a dose of Belviq?

If a scheduled dose of Belviq if missed, take it as soon as you remember and are able. However, if the time is near for the next scheduled dose, skip the one missed, and resume the regular dosing routine. Do not take multiple tablets to make up for one that was missed.

How do I store Belviq?

Keep Belviq tightly sealed in its original container, out of the reach of children, and away from the extremes of temperature and humidity. Dispose of any unused or expired tablets according to the instructions of your pharmacist.

What happens if I overdose on Belviq?

If an overdose of Belviq is suspected, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. However, if the patient has lost consciousness or has difficulty breathing, contact Emergency Services at 911.
