What is Bravelle?
Bravelle is a fertility drug that contains human follicle-stimulating hormone, also known as FSH. This hormone is naturally produced in the human pituitary gland. FSH helps a woman to become pregnant by stimulating the growth and development of immature eggs in the ovaries.
How do I take Bravelle?
Bravelle is injected under the skin or into the muscle. This is normally done by a health professional in a clinic or doctor’s office. Your doctor may allow you to inject this medication at home. He or she should show you how to administer the medication. Always wash your hands and sanitize the injection site before injecting Bravelle. This medication is usually prescribed in 5-day cycles.
Before taking Bravelle, tell your doctor if:
- You have or have ever had a brain tumor.
- You might be pregnant or you are breastfeeding.
- You have thyroid problems such as an over or underactive thyroid.
- You have adrenal gland insufficiency.
- You have ever had a blood clot or have an increased risk for developing blood clots.
- You experience unexplained vaginal bleeding.
- You have ever had breast cancer or any cancers of the reproductive system.
- You have ovarian cysts.
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medication.
What are the possible side effects of taking Bravelle?
Common side effects from taking Bravelle include headache, bloating, cramps, hot flashes and trouble breathing. Bravelle can have serious side effects including ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Tell your doctor right away if you experience pelvic pain, vomiting, abdominal pain, difficulty breathing and infrequent urination. Bravelle can also increase your chances of developing a blood clot or having a stroke. It can also cause the conception of two or more babies at once, miscarriages and birth defects.
What if I forget to take a dose of Bravelle?
If you miss a dose of Bravelle, call your doctor or pharmacist and ask how you should proceed. Your next dose will most likely be doubled.
How do I store Bravelle?
Unmixed, Bravelle may be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature. After mixing, this solution must be injected immediately. Protect this medication from light.
What happens if I overdose on Bravelle?
Overdose on Bravelle is unlikely since one dose is injected at a time. Signs of overdose are most likely similar to side effects. If you think you or someone you know has overdosed on Bravelle, call your doctor immediately.
