Calan Sr Information:
Calan SR is a calcium channel blocker. Drugs in this class treat high blood pressure by altering the amount of calcium in the heart and cell muscles, which allows blood vessels to relax. Lowering high blood pressure can reduce your risk of heart problems.
Follow the dosing schedule provided by your doctor and printed on your prescription label. Swallow Calan SR tablets whole; do not crush or chew them. Keep all doctor’s appointments while taking this medication. Your doctor may need to test your blood pressure and kidney and liver function frequently. Keep taking Calan SR even if you feel well; high blood pressure is often undetectable.p
Before taking Calan SR, tell your doctor if:
· You are taking any other medications, vitamins, or supplements
· You have any food or drug allergies
· You have any heart problems, including sick sinus syndrome, AV block, or a heart rhythm disorder
· You have kidney or liver disease
· You have a nerve-muscle disorder
· You are nursing, pregnant, or planning a pregnancy
Mild Calan SR side effects may include headache, dizziness, constipation, and cold-like symptoms. Serious side effects are rare but require medical attention when they occur. Call your doctor right away if you experience an irregular heart rate, difficulty catching your breath, sudden weight gain, severe lightheadedness, flu-like symptoms, pale skin, chest pain, cough with foamy mucus, or anxiety.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and resume your regular schedule. Don’t take two doses at once or close to the same time.
Store your Calan SR medicine and room temperature and keep it away from bright light, high heat, and moisture. Don’t leave your medication anywhere that children or pets could reach. If you are no longer taking this drug or the tablets have expired, ask your pharmacist about safe disposal strategies.
If untreated, an overdose of Calan SR can be fatal. Get emergency medical help if you think that you or someone in your home has taken too much of this medicine.
Warnings
Because Calan SR can cause dizziness, you should avoid driving until you know how the medicine affects you. Reduce your likelihood of becoming dizzy by always getting up slowly from a sitting or lying position. Don’t drink alcohol while taking Calan SR, as this may cause your blood pressure to drop, worsening certain side effects. Don’t eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice without first consulting your doctor.
